Welcome to All Gardeners, Students, Teachers

AS  a recently retired science teacher from the home counties UK and a keen gardener for many years I have RECENTLY launched the Book ‘Science for the Gardener.

Towards the end of my career in science teaching I was lucky enough to be able to study Advanced Horticulture at Capel Manor College,  Enfield where I completed several different exam courses and I am proud to be an Full  Member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture a highly professional body with the highest outlook towards the future of Horticulture progress.

Now happily living in Somerset in the South West of the UK I find my passion for gardening and the great outdoors grows ever stronger.   I have joined the Committee of my local Horticultural Society as the horticultural advisor also write gardening articles for local magazines and newsletters and this website which is now International from UK, Europe and US and China, the far east and Oceania .

Book a Talk - on hold until 2022

I have designed a 55 slide Power Point slide show available for all Gardeners ,Teachers Horticultural Students on this website .A special  shorter 24 slide free version is available on the RHS Schools website under secondary school resources so do search for it!

I well remember the evening the speaker failed to turn up for a meeting at our Horticultural Club – a mix up over dates – and our secretary desperately trying to find someone to take their place.  When she came to me I said that I would be happy to say a few words – and suddenly my teaching instincts kicked in and an interesting evening was spent just chatting over ‘garden matters’.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself, earned the grateful thanks of the secretary and chairman and believe that the audience also enjoyed this impromptu chat.  It set me thinking…

Over the years I have been asked so many questions by fellow garden lovers about why their plants behave as they do, why things happen when they do, and how they happen above and below soil level .  I decided  that what was needed was an easy-to-understand Power Point talk with fun graphics introducing the concept of science being one more very useful tool for the gardener.
